Eggshell Art

Eggshell art necklaces are a unique way to use eggshell as an art medium. You can do the same idea on cardboard and use the eggshell to create a shape for your artwork instead of a necklace.

Julia shows you how she made her eggshell necklace in the video above. She also shares a few pointers to make the process better.

First, you need to prepare your eggshell.  Hardboil 3 eggs. Remove the shells, it is fine that they break into pieces. Use the eggs to make egg salad or eat the hard-boiled eggs as they are.  Put the eggshells on a cookie sheet and heat them in the oven at 275 for about 5 minutes if you want to take extra precaution for bacteria. Also, the oven dries out the eggshell to use right away.

You will need the following supplies:

  • round wood disc from a craft store for necklace base
  • drill with bit size for a necklace string to go through
  • pre-made necklace or cording of choice
  • paint for the disc only back will show
  • glue or mod podge
  • dimensional magic by mod podge
  • watercolor or alcohol ink
  • knife or thin scissors
  1. Drill a hole in the disc for the necklace. Paint disc front and back.
  2. cover one side of the disc with glue or mod podge and cover it with eggshells. Overlapping if necessary to cover the disc.
  3. Let dry completely or overnight.
  4. Paint eggshell with watercolor or alcohol ink. Let dry completely.
  5. Cut off any eggshell overhanging from the disc. Make edges clean.
  6. Cover the eggshell with dimensional magic. Wipe any excess over the edge. Let dry overnight.
  7. Re-drill the hole if it filled with glue or shell.
  8. Attach cording or necklace. Decorate with a charm or beads of your choice.
  9. Enjoy.
