Wildflowers Week Two

Week 2:

  • Complete Wildflower Watch worksheet.

  • Examine a wildflower field guide. Notice the many colors and varieties.

  • Take a walk and look for wildflowers. Bring home a few to dry in a flower press.

  • Read aloud Miss Rumphius. Discuss the plot. What gift did she give to her town? What difference could you make with a simple act?

Wildflower Watch Worksheet

Take a nature walk around your neighborhood, at the local park or walking trail. Locate two wildflowers in bloom. Photograph the plants. Pick one bloom from each plant. Glue photos onto a piece of paper to include in your completed work. Press the blooms in a flower press.

  1. Use library books and internet resources to research the origin of the blossoms you found. What are the names and species of the blossoms?
  1. Are your wildflowers native to your state?

  2. What is their natural habitat?

  1. Did the Native Americans use these plants for a particular purpose?

  1. Does the wildflower have any uses today in modern medicine or simple remedies?

  1. Do these wildflowers serve a specific purpose for co-habiting with wildlife or insects?

  1. Do they provide food through the leaves, nectar or roots?
