Read aloud Miss Rumphius. Discuss the plot. What gift did she give to her town? What difference could you make with a simple act?

Take a nature walk around your neighborhood, at the local park or walking trail. Locate two wildflowers in bloom. Photograph the plants. Pick one bloom from each plant. Glue photos onto a piece of paper to include in your completed work. Press the blooms in a flower press.

Did the Native Americans use these plants for a particular purpose?
Does the wildflower have any uses today in modern medicine or simple remedies?
