Wood Burned Ornaments

Wood burning is a fantastic handicraft. Using a burning tool should be supervised by an adult at all times. We have enjoyed making tags, ornaments, drawings and even a tic tac toe board from burning wood.

The ornaments we are demonstrating are fun and such a special gift for the family. Chose a pattern each year and grow a collection. We have given you 4 patterns, to begin with. Use carbon paper to transfer the pattern onto your wood. Craft stores carry wood pieces if you cannot cut your own.

I recommend the versa tool burner over the regular wood burner. The versa tool has a temperature control setting on it and the other does not. I like this tool when working with children so they do not burn the wood too hot and ruin their project. It is better to go over the project a second time with a lower heat.

So Holly, I have a question. We cut wood for a decoration on tables. They smelled so bad we had to throw them out. These were bigger pieces of wood and the tree had been down for sometime. Any suggestions?

    Sherri,
Sometimes depending on the wood, it may have a bad smell. I usually let the wood dry out or air out more and try again! Good luck. Holly
